The editor of Asr-e Iran, Jaffar Mohammadi, wrote an op-ed listing the nine countries that stand to lose the most from improved relations between Iran and the West. Although Israel and Arab countries in the Persian Gulf were included on this list, what made the article stand out was that Iran’s allies such as China and Russia made the list as well. What’s more, Mohammadi even included the United States as one of the countries with which improved relations can be mutually beneficial.
Two conservative websites have accused President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s ally Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei of having already begun his presidential campaign advertising. Mashaei is currently the president’s chief of staff, and the president has spent a considerable part of his second term promoting Mashaei as his successor.
Entekhab website published a photo of well known Iranian marathon runner Hossein Fazeli with a picture of Mashei pinned to the front of his jersey in a contest in Europe. The article wrote that Fazeli and “Mashei were both born in the same city” and that Fazeli is a “supporter of Mashei in Europe.”
Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, in a non-public meeting with the Majles has explained the reasons for Canada’s severing of ties with the Islamic Republic, the Conservative Resalat has reported. In the meeting Salehi commented: “Canada is under the influence of the Zionists in its foreign policy and pursues their policy, and from one side endeavours to increase its relations with this regime, and earn their satisfaction. This action was in line with the interests of the Zionist regime”.
